What’s missing?

February 12, 2008

A lot of issues have been covered in the campaigns: Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Healthcare, Gay Marriage, and a host of others. What’s been sadly absent from debates and speeches is the subject of science, excepting the barest of lip service. Any discerning citizen understands that the future of science in the US is on the precipice of a steep decline, and teetering ever forward over the chasm.

ScienceDebate 2008 is:

A concerned citizens initiative now cosponsored by the AAAS, the Council on Competitiveness, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine, and signed by over 100 leading American universities and other organizations.

Their goal is to have the remaining candidates engage in a debate on policies of science. The venue is reserved, invitations have been sent out, and all they need is a “yea” response. I urge all of you to send requests to your candidate of choice for them to step up and have this critical discussion.
