Friends of Historic Glasgow Spams Local Blogs
October 24, 2006
While I do support the work the FoHG does, spam is never a good way to get support from fair-minded, intelligent bloggers. They have posted a spam message in the about section of M-BA, and on a thread on Down With Absolutes!. A word of advice to the Friends of Historic Glasgow: please find a less parasitic way to garner support for your cause.
UPDATE: Our own Nancy Willing is looking into this issue, as it seems that this may indeed be a troll or overzealous supporter. Thanks go out to Nancy, Super Sleuth!

Have you been to FoHG’s petition site at http://www.thepetitionsite.com? Anyone can e-mail the petition out from that site, while stating (falsely) that they are the Friends of Historic Glasgow at historicglasgow@earthlink.net or Joe M. at whatever@myemailaddy.com . How do you know that it was FoHG who posted this message on your blog? It is entirely possible that the poster on your blog is someone allied with the developer or his cronies who is trying to make FoHG look bad by tricking folks like Joe M. into erroneously assuming, and then publicly stating, that FoHG is spamming DE-related blogs. Be careful who you accuse such things — you may have been played the fool by someone who you don’t agree with.
I will acknowledge that as a possibility, but must go with the most likely source.
I would also like to note that this was not an email sent to me, but a post made to the M-BA About section.
bizarro land
I just coincidently google FoHG to find your topic and as a co-founder of FoHG this is all news to me!!!
I will look into it and get back to you.
Thank you, Nancy. Trust me, this is not going to stop my support of FoHG, nor is it going to keep me from singing your petitions. If you find who did it, just let them know that it’s bad form.
After a first round of queries it looks like this is a good story in the works. It was not posted by any member of FOHG and thus indeed was a troll-fake. I am going to ask Mike if he will provide an IP address for me since we have all been paying lawyers so much dough in the lawsuit brought on by the wife of the county council president Paul Clark against our group’s members for trying to (lawfully) protect Delaware’s treasures.
Very interesting, indeed! Please keep me posted on this Nancy. I’ll put an update on this post.
